Tasha's To Do List: Nov. 20-23
NORTH TEXAS (KRLD) -- From concerts to festivals to holiday exhibits, there is a lot happening around North Texas this weekend! Tasha Stevens has you covered!
-- If you want an insider look at the George W Bush White House, head over to SMU's George W. Bush Library for the "Secrets Revealed" talk. This Saturday, Nov 22, take part in the special holiday exhibit "Christmas 2002 – All Creatures Great and Small."
-- If you are a lover of all things dog, check out some awesome custom doghouses as the SPCA of Texas joins forces with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry of Greater Dallas for the Home for the Holidays doghouse exhibition held between Dillard's and Macy's at NorthPark Center. You even have the chance of becoming a proud owner of one of these snazzy dog pads. The doghouses will be raffled off with tickets available for $5 each or five raffle tickets for $20. Event proceeds will benefit the SPCA of Texas' 2014 efforts to rescue, heal and find homes for thousands of animals in North Texas.
-- Even furry babies want to sit on Santa's knee, so get yours and head over to visit with Santa on special Pet Nights at Stonebriar Centre. On Mondays through Dec. 15, bring your pets on a leash or in an appropriate carrier. We don't want anyone going all Cujo at this thing. Santa's Frisco North Pole is located near Dillard's and Sears.
-- The holiday season kicks off in Dallas this weekend with the annual City Lights holiday festival along Main Street. City Lights will see the lighting of the official Downtown tree and a visit from Santa.
-- Now through this Sunday, see ELF, The Musical at Bass Hall. And before you ask, yes, this is based on the 2003 movie in which a young orphan child mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Only problem is he is human, and he grows up, which means he is huge and a hot mess.
-- If you dig Chicago and the Eagles and you would like to help a great cause, check out a band called Connections. This is something I am sure you have never seen before: A band led by members of the United Methodist clergy from the Dallas-area, who love to rock out. God rock if you will. Every show is free, but they do take up a "love offering" for charity. You can see them this Friday night at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas.
-- If you are a board game fanatic…be sure to check out BoardGameGeek.com's tabletop gaming convention this weekend that will include open board gaming with more than 3,500 games available including a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament.
-- Now through Saturday, you can get some of that Christmas shopping out of the way at the Chi Omega Christmas Market. The 2014 Chi Omega Christmas Market marks 37 years of giving by bringing a unique holiday shopping experience to Centennial Hall in Dallas' Fair Park.
-- Here's your best shot to make a real difference in the community. The Big Hearts Sporting Clays Classic Friday at the Dallas Gun Club will be a day of enjoying the outdoors, food and fundraising. Awards will be given for both the best individual shooters and the best team.
-- The new Hunger Games movie comes out this weekend, so in celebration of that, Geeks Who Drink will bring you the "This is a Tribute: A Hunger Games Quiz". Most of the quiz will cover the events of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Don't worry. The quiz will be done in time for you to catch a midnight showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.
-- Thursday night the Dallas Stars take on the Arizona Coyotes at the AAC.
-- This Sunday, it is another edition of the Sunday Sunset Screening at Annette Strauss Square. This week's movie is all about the greatness that is Robert De Niro with Raging Bull. Bring a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine to enjoy under the stars, but don't worry if you forget the grub. When you RSVP online, you'll have the option to pre-purchase picnic boxes to enjoy during the movie.
-- Head over to the Dallas Arboretum for The 12 Days of Christmas exhibit which features an elaborate collection of 25-foot tall Victorian gazebos filled with costumed characters you would swear were human, along with animals made famous by the Christmas carol.
-- Spend a hilarious night of stand-up comedy Thursday night with the winner and finalists of NBC's comedy competition Last Comic Standing. Their first post-finale tour is stopping tonight at the Winspear.
-- Saturday night at the Verizon is a country group that actually sounds country, which is a welcome change from what we usually hear these days. I love, love, love their harmonies -- and evidently, so do a lot of other people because they have sold over 1.5 million records. Check out Little Big Town.

-- I know we are in Texas and all but you don't have to wait for an ice storm to do some ice skating. Head over to Panther Island Ice now through January 19 and check out their even bigger outdoor ice rink with real ice.
-- If you dig snakes and the like, check out Saturday's Repticon Reptile and Exotic Animal Convention in Farmer's Branch.
-- This weekend, you can see the band responsible for a portion of GNR's name. Check out LA Guns at Trees this Sunday night.
-- Friday through Sunday, experience The Golden Age of Jazz with the Dallas Symphony.
-- If history is your gig, this movie is what you want to see. The Imitation Game is a true story about the English mathematician and logician, Alan Turing, who played a major role in cracking the Enigma code used by the Germans during World War II.
-- If fantasy and horror is more your style, you'll want to check out V/H/S: Viral. This flick is about two private investigators searching for a missing student, who break into his house and find collection of VHS tapes. The content of the tapes is pretty jacked up, and they realize this case is going to be a major problem.
-- In the past, I always got this guy confused with Blake Shelton, but now that Shelton is on The Voice, I have a better time telling them apart. I knew I loved this guy the first time I heard one of his songs that reminded me of my Grandma. You know the one, "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off". Yeah, I know. A real tear jerker. Check out the very hot Joe Nichols at Billy Bob's Saturday night.
-- This chick looks like a sweet girl, and then she opens her mouth. The first time I really saw her she was on one of those Comedy Central Roasts and she was the most brutal person on the show. If you are brave enough, check out Amy Schumer Thursday at the Verizon.
