GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Forty-year-old Joel Freeman of Fate was arrested after a standoff with SWAT in Garland Thursday afternoon.

Two felony evading warrants and one felony theft warrant out of Dallas County had Freeman's name on them.

Pedro Barineau with the Garland Police Department said he barricaded himself in a room at the Quality Inn Suites off Bass Pro Drive.

"On contact through the door, the suspect made threats that if anyone comes to the door he will shoot them," said Barineau.

A negotiator spoke to Freeman, calming him down until he eventually surrendered.
