ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Arlington are searching for a killer after a deadly road rage incident Wednesday night. According to police, 26-year-old Brittany Daniel was shot and killed as she was traveling eastbound along Interstate-30 between Cooper Street and Center Street in Arlington.
The incident happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. when authorities received a call from a passenger inside of Daniel's vehicle.
Police explained that the suspected shooter was in a car which was weaving through traffic. A passenger in the backseat of that vehicle had the window rolled down and was yelling obscenities. After an exchange of words with Daniel, the suspect whipped out a gun and pulled the trigger twice.
Daniel managed to pull over her car before she died.
The female passenger inside of Daniel's vehicle was a co-worker at Hawthorne Suites in Fort Worth, where Daniel worked as a housekeeping supervisor. She needed a ride home and Daniel offered to help.
Officials are calling this a tragic case of road rage, saying that the vicitm was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. "We always say, as a reminder, when you are dealing with a road rage type of incident -- we see this nationally, across the country," said Lt. Christopher Cook of the Arlington Police Department, "the best thing to always do is to avoid those types of situations and call 911."
Daniel's father remembered her as easygoing and always willing to help. She was the fourth of five children, and lived at home with her parents. He cannot imagine who would take her life, and asked for help with finding the killer. "If somebody knows him, in the car with him, please turn him in," said Malcolm Daniel. "Our daughter was loved by many. Only 26 years old, didn't get to enjoy her life, and it's snuffed out. This person needs to pay."
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to help them identify the suspect, described only as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man in his mid-20s. He was in the backseat of a small four-door car with tinted windows. Anyone who may have information about this case is urged to call the Arlington Police Department at at 817-459-5325. Tips can also be made anonymously by contacting Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
