LUBBOCK (AP) – A homeowner shot a person who tried to start a fire after breaking into his home according to Lubbock Police.

Police say the burglary suspect was shot in the stomach early Sunday morning and taken to the hospital with injures that were not life-threatening.

The family told police they were sleeping when the suspect broke in. The father said he warned the suspect that he had a gun and police were on the way and he should leave.

The homeowner told police that the suspect then poured lighter fluid on the floor and tried to light it. He told the suspect to stop or he would shoot, but the suspect began approaching him until the homeowner could no longer back up, he then shot the suspect.
