Severe storms, flood advisories return to North Texas
NORTH TEXAS – North Texas is not done with the storms yet. The Storm Prediction Center has us at level 2, Slight Risk for severe storms and they have expanded it across all of North Texas.
The tornado warning for Van Zandt is canceled; however, small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain are still possible with the cluster of thunderstorms in the county.
A flash flood warning has been issued for Kaufman and Van Zandt counties until 11:30 p.m.
The flood warning for Denton County is extended to early Tuesday afternoon.
The flood warning for Collin County is extended to early Tuesday evening.
The flood warning for the Trinity River has been extended in Dallas County until Wednesday morning.
The flood warning for Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties is extended to early Wednesday afternoon.
The flood warning for Delta and Hopkins counties is in effect until Thursday morning.
Once again, there isn't great model agreement on the exact timing of storms and placement but they are indicating the potential for a second round overnight.
The below model is more delayed in timing and brings it into our eastern counties closer to 5-6 a.m.
Another one of our models has the storms winding down around 3 a.m.
As we have seen this season, each round of storms will impact the next round, including its intensity, timing, and placement. Storm chances for Tuesday will remain low and broad. Long-range, we can start to see a little shift to a more summer pattern in the coming weeks.
Also, be prepared for the summer heat! While a few storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with daytime heating, most of us will remain dry but hot.
Feels like temperatures will be in the triple digits with temperatures in the 90s! Remember to stay hydrated, take breaks in the A/C and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Thursday looks to be the hottest day.
