Summer Heat Continues For DFW

It should come as no surprise that the first week of September is feeling a whole like the last weeks of summer. Highs today will again get into the upper 90's. consistency is the new norm this week; highs at DFW could hit exactly 97° for the fourth day in a row.

We'll continue to watch deep tropical moisture linger just to our south, remnants of T.S. Dolly and Hurricane Norbert in the Pacific. It might produce an afternoon T'-storm across our south and southeast. This chance is for this afternoon and tomorrow's as well:

The best chance of rain is waiting for the weekend. Friday night football will be dry but the college games might have a storm move over the playing field. A strong cold front to our north will arrive here Saturday mid-day:

By the time the front gets into north Texas it'll be much weaker. Expect temperatures in the lower 90's and about a 30% storm chance. The rain chances will be better to our south on Sunday as the front stalls over the Hill country:

It is September and this is when we should at least have a little Fall weather arrive before we end the month. When we look at the last five years  you can see a significant difference between the average high the first week of September first the third week of September.  And those afternoons where the afternoon high is something OTHER than a 90° day (lower)? Over the last five Septembers at DFW there have only been six of those days in the first week of the month. By the 3rd week there has been 17.

It looks like the first big cool down since last Spring (one that isn't rain-induced at least) will arrive in another week. The long range forecast models are showing a significant pool of cold air making it all the way from Canada down to Texas. It should get here in two weekends. Highs would be in the 80's!
