Officer Shot In Little Elm, School Dismissals Delayed

UPDATE 8:40 PM - Little Elm Police Chief Rodney Harrison announces Detective Jerry Walker died of his injuries Tuesday.
UPDATE 6:30 PM - Little Elm Fire Chief Brian Roach says Detective Jerry Walker is being treated at Denton Regional Hospital. His current, official condition is not being released at this time.
There is no danger at the schools and they are no longer on lockdown.
"We are praying for the police officer and his family," said Roach.
LITTLE ELM (CBSDFW.COM) - A police officer in Little Elm was shot Tuesday afternoon. The officer is said to be in serious condition according to Denton County Sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Orlando Hinojosa.
A spokesperson for the Denton County Sheriff's Office tells CBS11, police responded to a report of a man with a gun around 3:50 p.m. in the residential neighborhood near Waterview and Turtle Cove.
When officers got there they heard a man yelling from a backyard. They saw the man had s rifle.
The Denton County Sheriff's spokesperson, Lt. Orlando Hinojosa, said between 3:50 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. officers were trying to talk with the man when he went inside the home and started firing at officers through a door or window.
The officer who was shot was rushed by CareFlite to a hospital.
The suspect has been barricaded inside ever since the shooting.
A Denton Sheriff's Department tactical team is helping Little Elm Police secure the neighborhood while working to talk the man with the rifle out of the house.
Menatime, the SWAT activity in the neighborhood is preventing traffic flow from around that area, according to Little Elm ISD.
However, after having Lakeside Middle School, Powell 6th Grade Center and the Zellars Administration Building on lockdown, the schools are now letting buses take kids home and the district is allowing parents to pick up their kids. But those who walk home are staying in the buildings.
