DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A student was shot at Kimball High School in Dallas on Monday morning.

According to Dallas Independent School District officials, the student was injured when he inadvertently shot himself with a single-shot revolver after the first class period had ended. Officials said a student had the Deringer in his pocket when it accidentally discharged.

Officials also said that metal detectors weren't used when the student arrived for a parent-teacher conference.

The school district said the student's injuries were non-life threatening and that he was taken to a local hospital.

The incident is under investigation.

The campus has been secured and classes were set to resume after the "Shelter In Place" was lifted earlier.

Parents were being allowed to pick up their kids.
