FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The CBS 11 Weather Authority has declared a Weather Alert Day this Memorial Day.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for most of North Texas until 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Severe thunderstorms have been forming all morning over West Texas. This complex of storms is moving east toward North Texas for the afternoon and evening hours. A potent upper level disturbance will swing across the area, keeping storms on the severe side from around 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. -- west to east -- across North Texas.

The main threat from these storms will be very strong winds and possibly large hail. Some tornadoes are also possible, especially if a few isolated storms can develop ahead of the main line.

A Flash Flood Watch is already in effect for North Texas.

Rainfall will be heavy with these storms but, thankfully, will be progressing through the area faster than the storms that arrived over this past weekend. However, any additional rainfall will aggravate the flooding situation in North Texas.

Stay weather aware throughout the afternoon. North Texans might need alter holiday plans as the storms approach.
