DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A teen was seriously wounded after he was shot outside of a northeast Dallas middle school on Wednesday night. The incident took place at about 10:20 p.m. in the 7000 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, near Sam Tasby Middle School.

According to police, the victim was held up by three suspects in a field outside of the campus, and then shot in the chest by his attackers. Authorities are still searching for the suspects, but have not released many identifying details. The victim described the attackers only as black men dressed in all black clothing.

Police have since confirmed that the man was 18-year-old Jose Martinez, a student at the Dallas Independent School District's alternative school. He was able to stagger to a nearby Today's discount food store, where the clerks inside called 911 for help.

Officers arrived to find Martinez resting on the floor of the store's entryway, bleeding from the center of his chest and from his abdomen. He was taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in serious condition. His current condition is not known.
