SAN DIEGO (AP) - Cole Hamels of the Texas Rangers pitched a scoreless third inning in the All-Star Game in his hometown several hours after receiving eight stitches in his chin.

Fox Sports reported that Hamels needed the stitches after tripping coming out of the bathroom at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Hamels struck out Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs with runners on second and third to end the third.

Asked about Hamels' mishap, AL manager Ned Yost of the Kansas City Royals said: "I saw he had a Band-Aid on and I didn't know what happened."

Hamels pitched at San Diego's Rancho Bernardo High.
