DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Stars have traded defenseman Jordie Benn to Montreal, the team announced Monday.

Dallas receives defenseman Greg Pateryn and a fourth-round pick from the Canadians in the deal.

Benn has spent his entire six-year career in Dallas. He recorded two goals, 13 assists and a -3 plus/minus this season.

Stars General Manager Jim Nill continues to trade away pieces ahead of the March 1 NHL trade deadline. Just a few days ago, Dallas shipped off forward Patrick Eaves in a trade to the Anaheim Ducks for a second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder.

"We want to thank Jordie for all his contributions both on the ice, and in the community," said Nill. "We wish him all the best in his career going forward."

Pateryn has spent his entire four-year career in Montreal. The 26-year-old Michigan native has one goal and five assists in 24 games this season.

"Greg is a solid defender and possesses a physical presence on the back-end," stated Nill. "He brings size and another right shot into the mix for us."

Both players have one year left on their contracts.
