Split-Second Decision Saves Dallas Father's Life
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - The life of a Dallas father was changed forever in a few seconds, and Chris Hagan says his life may have ended in those moments, if not for one split-second decision.
On Monday night, Hagan said he was walking in the parking lot of his Northeast Dallas apartment complex when two men approached him.
"They were yelling at me to empty my pockets and everything," said Hagan.
The 39 year-old father of two said he had just left his seven-year-old and three-year-old in his apartment with a friend, a few minutes earlier.
"I guess the first bullet I felt went through my abdomen," recalls Hagan.
Three bullets hit Hagan. Dallas police say 25-year old Michael Wafer and 19-year old LaDavid Sims tried to rob him before firing the shots.
Hagan may have saved himself when the first gunman pointed a gun to his head.
"I grabbed the barrel of the gun, and just yanked it, and it came out of his hand."
Hagan has injuries to his colon and intestines and is recovering at Baylor Medical Center. He has strong words for the men charged with shooting him.
"They need to go to prison. People like that don't feel remorse. The only remorse they have is they got caught," said Hagan. "But I feel very fortunate kids weren't there, because who knows what may have happened."
Police arrested Sims, Wafer and another 18-year old one mile from the shooting location. They were driving a stolen car.
