Southwest Airlines Extends Flight Schedule Including $79 Fares
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Southwest Airlines announced introductory fares of $99 or less on Monday to a number of destinations from Dallas Love Field Airport.
Beginning Oct. 13 -- when the Wright Amendment expires -- the airline will offer nonstop service for $99 or less (one-way) between Dallas and the following cities:
• Baltimore/Washington (three roundtrips a day)
• Chicago Midway (five roundtrips a day, up to six as of Nov. 2)
• Denver (three roundtrips a day)
• Las Vegas (three roundtrips a day, up to four as of Nov. 2)
• Los Angeles (three roundtrips a day, up to four as of Nov. 2)
• Orlando (two roundtrips a day, up to three as of Nov. 2)
• Washington Reagan National (three roundtrips a day, up to six as of Nov. 2)
Beginning Nov. 2, the nonstop service will be expanded to the following cities at the introductory $99 rate:
• Atlanta (four roundtrips a day)
• Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (two roundtrips a day)
• Nashville (two roundtrips a day)
• New York LaGuardia (three roundtrips a day)
• Phoenix (four roundtrips a day)
• San Diego (two roundtrips a day)
• Santa Ana/Orange County (one roundtrip a day)
• Tampa Bay (two roundtrips a day)
Introductory fares of $79 will be available to three cities: Orlando, Denver and Seattle.
Southwest executives believe there will be a mad dash to book the fares, though the fares will not be available for all seats.
Chief Marketing Officer Kevin Krone wouldn't specify how many seats will be available at the reduced rate -- or how long they will be available.
"We love to offer low fares to customers, and of course that low fare also includes two free bags," said Krone Monday. "We thought $79 and $99 fares was a great little fare and better than what most people could get in this market."
The airline also introduced two new international destinations: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Mexico City.
Flights can now be booked through Jan. 4, 2015. The new flights are available for purchase now at southwest.com.
The announcement was made at Klyde Warren Park, where the airline announced a contribution to the park called the "Southwest Porch". The space is a place to eat outdoors and is expected to host book clubs and other public gatherings.
