NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 SPORTS) - National Signing Day saw the Dallas Independent School District send 114 student-athletes to college.

But, getting to this point was an incredible challenge for South Oak Cliff High School wide receiver J.F. Thomas.

Shortly before his senior season, his mother Tamekia Boggas suffered a severe stroke that forced doctors to put her in a medically induced coma.

Thomas spent every night by her bedside, doing his homework and talking with his mother... though she could not respond.

Ms. Boggas says she heard every word, and emerged from her coma in time to see his final high school game.

Thomas finished with 75 catches this season, 26 of them for touchdowns.

The teenager was verbally committed to attend Texas Christian University, but, changed at the last minute to Texas Tech.

Of course, signing day was a point of pride for his family and all of DISD.
