IRVING (The Fan) - Tony Romo has chosen the "plate insertion'' option for the collarbone surgery he will undergo next week, sources tell me. The procedure - which includes a set of screws and a plate to protect the bone - features a six-to-eight week recovery period, meaning the Cowboys' Pro Bowl QB should be healed well in advance of the May 26 start of OTAs.

Romo also considered what is known as a "Mumford procedure'' featuring the "shaving'' of bone from the clavicle. And no surgery at all was also a possibility. But Romo - who missed 12 games in 2015 after fracturing his collarbone twice -- recently said he wished for a procedure, that "ensures, most likely, that it never happens again. That's really what you're trying to do.''
