Capital Murder Suspect Arrested After Standoff

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A three-hour standoff ended with the apprehension of a Fort Worth capital murder suspect in Dallas.

The suspect, Benjamin Thomas Strauch, 28, was taken away in an ambulance after being exposed to tear gas in a motel room at 2600 Walnut Hill Lane at Shady Lane near I-35E.

Dallas SWAT deployed about a dozen tear gas canisters inside room where suspect fired three times at officers.

No officers were hurt.

The Strauch was wanted in connection to a homicide on May 30, 2016, at 2265 Evans Avenue.

Police say once he's released from Parkland Hospital, the suspect will be transported to the Ft. Worth City Jail where he will be booked in on the murder warrant.

The standoff with Dallas SWAT started around 4:25 p.m. as the North Texas Fugitive Unit went to serve an arrest warrant.
