Son Arrested For Plano Father's Death

MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - The hunt for a Plano man police say killed his own father is over. Police arrested 28-year-old Kenneth Midgley, Jr. after more than a week of searching.
It wasn't easy getting Kenneth Midgley, Jr. to the Collin County Jail. The family believed he had escaped to Mexico before U.S. Marshals and Plano police caught up with him at DFW Airport. Now more information has been released about what police say he left behind before he took off.
Crime scene investigators focused on the victim's garage the day after the murder. In the Felony Probable Cause Affidavit a Plano detective describes a frantic call from the daughter of 50-year-old Kenneth Midgley, Sr. She tells the dispatcher her brother Kenneth, Jr. may have hurt their father.
"According to Midgley, her brother stated, 'You can't talk to Dad because he's not alive,'" a detective writes in the affidavit.
When police got to the home they found a handwritten confession directing them to a freezer in the garage. According to the affidavit, "Officers found what appeared to be a body wrapped in a blue tarp located inside."
That's when officers secured the home that would take crime scene investigators two days to process.
Police say the weapon used to kill Midgley, Sr. was a blunt object. The affidavit describes a steel rod on the floor of the garage near the freezer. "The steel rod was wrapped with bright orange tape and it appeared to have blood on it. (A detective) looked inside the freezer and observed a body wrapped in a blue tarp inside."
Beyond the garage officers searched the home and found signs of a struggle along with blood throughout the house. According to the affidavit, that hand-written confession went into detail. "The note indicated that 'Dad' was hit with a steel rod by the person writing the note who signed his name as 'Kenny.'"
That affidavit goes on to explain officers showed the confession to the victim's wife who identified the handwriting as their son's.
