ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - An unpatriotic act shocked some people having dinner at an Arlington McDonald's Wednesday night.

Through the restaurant window, witnesses say they saw a man yank down the American flag from the restaurant's flag pole.

An employee says the man then inexplicably stuffed it inside a trash can.

"I saw the flag in the trash can... It was in there and I didn't know whether I should grab it so I went and talked to my manager and they called the cops," said Phillip Lord who works at the McDonald's.

"I think it's a shame that someone would disgrace our flag like that," said customer Elwin Sciortino.

Police say they did not find the person responsible for removing the flag and putting it in the trash.

Arlington Police say one of the employees retrieved the flag and put it back up.

Employees at the McDonald's tell CBS11 say they've ordered a new flag they put a new flag on the pole as soon as it arrives.
