Some Women Selling Their Positive Pregnancy Tests Online
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Just when you thought you've heard everything along comes this. Right now, if you wanted, you could go online and buy a positive pregnancy test. While the practice isn't illegal, it is raising questions.
What can be a sign of great joy, pregnancy, is also becoming the sign of money.
Search online for positive pregnancy tests and there are plenty of results. The alleged genuine tests are soaked in urine and sold on websites like craigslist.
One ad said, "I'm pregnant and selling my positive pregnancy tests for those that need them ASAP."
Another said, "It's not my business what you use it for but I'd be more than happy to meet you in a public parking lot."
One Dallas woman who has sold her pregnancy tests said, "They meet me somewhere. I make sure my significant other goes with me, so that way I am not alone."
The woman is a married, stay-at-home mom who is eight months pregnant. Of her entrepreneurial effort she said, "It's a neat, marketable skill. It is kind of unique. You only get to do it so many times in your life I guess."
Each positive test can sell for $20 to $100.
The Dallas other says she sells one or two tests a month. "I don't really use the money for anything. I just shove it in the cookie jar. It's a 'cause I can' kind of thing, not because I need to pay a bill with it."
Most people believe the majority of women purchasing the tests aren't doing so for righteous reasons. "Ninety-five percent of women just want to lie to get their man, to make people feel sympathy from them." Relationship experts say it generally doesn't work.
People who talked to CBS 11 weren't too keen on the idea either. Still, our Dallas mom asked why not? "Everyone says, 'Oh you should get the money. You might as well.'"
