Sixteen-Year-Old Faces Charges For Allegedly Killing Friend

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspicious shooting and now Arlington police have arrested a 16-year-old youth in the fatal shooting of his 17-year-old friend.
"They said he was shot in the face," a weeping Michael Roselle told CBS 11 News. Roselle identified the victim as his adopted son, Evan Roselle. Michael Roselle recounted how he found out his son was dead.
"Of course, cried and grieved. And then around five o'clock went over there and didn't know all those news media were there." But at that early hour police wouldn't let him in; it was still a crime scene at that time. Officers briefed him as best they could but he left frustrated.
It is unclear whether Evan or his friend had possession of the handgun but police tell us it was stolen last month. First reports indicated this was an accidental shooting; then late this afternoon police charged the 16-year-old with criminal negligent homicide.
Neighbors told CBS 11 News it's not the first time police were called here. "Well, it's scary, it's scary. They shouldn't have access to a gun anyway," Gene Taylor said.
Hours later -- when crime scene investigators finished bagging and tagging evidence -- CBS 11 News tried in vain to receive comment from someone inside the home. "I'm not even going to give a statement," said a man who answered the door.
Roselle tells us he and his wife adopted Evan when he was just a few weeks old. "I mean, I loved him. He was a caring person and he had a big heart. But sometimes he may have been with people he shouldn't have been with. Now he's not here and I love him and I miss him."
Evan Roselle would have turned 18 next month.
