Showers sweep over North Texas Sunday bringing cooler temperatures
NORTH TEXAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) - A bulk of Sunday's precipitation has moved into East Texas, but a few afternoon storms are possible along a weak front and outflow boundary.
The morning's thunderstorms brought 1-2" radar-estimated rainfall totals to parts of North Texas, mainly focused north of I-20.
There is a flood advisory until 2:00 p.m. for the northeast counties, where the heaviest rain fell. Low lying and poor drainage areas may experience minor flooding, as well as ponding on roadways.
Temperatures will be noticeably cooler Sunday afternoon with high in the low/mid 90s.
Enjoy the brief reprieve while you can because we are right back to the 100s starting Monday through the upcoming work week. Slighter lower humidity next week will keep "feels-like" temperatures closer to the ambient air temperature, but still around 105-112 degrees. We will likely see heat advisories or excessive heat warnings issued again.
The ridge of high pressure that retreated west this weekend, moves east next week and is squarely over us for Tuesday and Wednesday. Meaning the heat dome makes a come back and has us baking under sunny skies with temperatures around 105-106 degrees.
Rain chances hold off until next weekend when the ridge once again releases its hold on North Texas, allowing a weak front and disturbances to slide into the area.
