DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas are investigating after a musician was shot at a recording studio in Deep Ellum early Wednesday morning. It happened at about 6:00 a.m. at the Legacy Music Group studios located in the 2800 block of Main Street, near Malcolm X Boulevard.
Crews worked later Wednesday morning to replace the location's glass front door after it was shattered by a bullet.
Matt Medlock explained that a music producer was working through the night when someone started knocking and pulling on the locked door. The victim went to investigate, but the person on the other side of the glass had pulled out a gun. Medlock ran downstairs to find his client shot in the shoulder, through the studio door.
"It's unfortunate for something like this to happen down here. It's surprising," said an upset Medlock. "We work late nights all the time down here. Been here about two years and never had any encounters like this one, so it's really just overwhelming and disappointing."
The victim was transported to Baylor Medical Center at Dallas. His injury was not life threatening. The shooter had left before police officers arrived at the scene, and has still not been located. The recording studio is efforting to get surveillance camera video into the hands of police.
The executive director of the Deep Ellum Foundation said that they have expanded neighborhood patrols throughout the area, not because bad things are happening, but because the neighborhood is experiencing a resurgency. They want visitors to feel safe. However, people in Deep Ellum are calling this shooting incident unnerving.
