MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Some North Texans got up early, in the cold, trying to snag that perfect gift. Dozens of people were in line at the Best Buy store in Mesquite well before sunrise. Their mission is to get this year's hottest item.

One guy said he was just there to get some AA batteries and didn't know what all the fuss was about – of course he was kidding.

All the hype here and across the country is over the NES Classic Edition – the Nintendo throwback to the 1980s.

The consoles are sold out everywhere, unless you're willing to pay hundreds of dollars on eBay.

Best Buy announced they'd release a limited quantity at many of its locations today. There might be a few dozens of the games offered up and in the dark Tuesday there were at least that many people in line.

Among the pack, braving the frigid weather, was a group of Best Buy employees who got no special privileges and had to get in cue like everyone else.

When asked who he was shopping for and why the game was such a big deal Ray Delgado said, "I'm hoping to get it for my brother as a Christmas gift. He grew up playing it, so hopefully he'll love it."

Jesses Rodden wanted it for the younger generation. "My nephew," he said. "He is getting interested in video games and stuff like that. And whenever this was coming out I was like 'alright if I'm going to get him into something I gonna get him into the old stuff, not the new stuff.'"

Best Buy and other stores like Toys "R" Us and Kohl's have extended hours now through Christmas Eve.

Nintendo has reportedly already sold some 200,000 NES Classics in the U.S. since it debuted last month.
