Police Investigate Shooting Death In Southwest Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Fort Worth are investigating a shooting death in the 4900 block of Ranch View Road, near Bellaire Drive in the southwestern part of the city. Authorities were called at about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday after a man spotted a woman's body in a public grassy area.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find the woman dead outside with gunshot wounds. Her name has not been released.

Detectives blocked off a large area of the Overton Woods neighborhood and could be seen combing through the grass and searching for evidence. Further details about the investigation have not yet been released. Officials are not even sure if the shooting happened in the neighborhood, or if the body was just dumped at this location.

Police are treating this case as a homicide, but no information has been given about a possible suspect.

Neighbors gathered near the scene Tuesday morning. This is an older, affluent part of Fort Worth where residents actually pay for extra police patrols. Crime is not common here, and a death is even more unusual. "Totally out of character for our neighborhood," said Giuliana Vural. "Shocking. And if it's a homicide, very suspicious."
