Shooter Not Charged After Arlington Attack

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A fight at an Arlington apartment complex ended with one man being shot late Tuesday night, yet he could be the one to end up behind bars. It all started at around 11:30 p.m. when two men got into a dispute at the Pavilion Apartments, located near the intersection of Mayfield Road and South Cooper Street.
According to authorities, one of the men started throwing bricks at the other man, who was sitting inside of his mother's SUV. Fearing for his life, the other man pulled out a gun and shot his attacker twice. The shooter then drove the SUV to the Gander Mountain outdoors store near the intersection of Interstate-20 and Collins Street, calling his mother for help along the way.
The vehicle had clear damage to the front windshield, and the driver's side window appeared to be smashed out.
Police interviewed the shooter at the Arlington Highlands shopping center and released him at the scene, after witnesses told officers that the shooting was an act of self-defense. He is not expected to face any charges. His name has not been released.
Meanwhile, the shooting victim was taken to Medical Center of Arlington with wounds to his stomach and groin. He went into surgery, but his current condition is not known. Police said that he will be charged with aggravated assault, after he gets out of the hospital. His name has also not been released.
