Sex Trafficking Ring Busted, 13 Women Saved
GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - It took little more than a year for authorities to rescue 13 human trafficking victims in North Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety held a press conference Wednesday to discuss details of their investigation.
Officials with the North Texas Trafficking Task Force said the main targets, all illegal immigrants, were young women recruited from Central America and Mexico. They were promised jobs as housekeepers or nannys if they came to the U.S. But once the women were stateside, they were forced into prostitution at area brothels.
Ten illegal immigrants were indicted by a Dallas County grand jury in connection to the human trafficking ring. Now that the kingpins of the operation are locked up, investigators said they will continue to focus their attention on finding other victims.
Other participating agencies include Homeland Security Investigations, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Dallas Police Department.
