Sergeant Thankful After Alleged DWI Driver Slams Into Squad Car

CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) - One of the dangers of being a police officer is caught on dashcam.
A concerned resident called Carrollton police to report a car driving erratically. Police were arresting that driver when another alleged drunk driver slammed right into their patrol cars.
The dash cam video from a parked police squad car shows police lights flashing ahead, when you hear an incredibly loud slam and then some 'flowery' language. The red pickup seems to come out of nowhere, and T-bones one Carrollton squad car before hitting another.
Sergeant Sheldon Blackwell's squad car was one of the ones hit. "I looked up in the rear view mirror just in time to see the headlights coming way too fast…just before he hit me," he said.
The picture above is what Sergeant Blackwell's squad car looks like now.
The damage to the Chevy Tahoe is the first slam you hear on an audio recording of the incident, but you can't see it in the video that was captured.
Of the two Carrollton PD cars hit, Blackwell's was the most severely damaged. "It could have turned out a lot differently had my squad car not been there," he said.
The officers had pulled over on busy Interstate-35E to arrest a suspected drunk driver.
Sergeant Blackwell used his squad car to block the lane. That's when officials say 29-year-old Jose Cecilio Fabian-Gonzalez was traveling northbound, lost control and crashed into the two, parked squad cars.
Turns out Gonzalez would also be arrested for DWI. According to authorities, his blood-alcohol level as more than .15. The legal limit is a blood-alcohol level of .08-percent.
Carrollton police Public Information Officer Jolene Devito said, "Unfortunately this is just another example of the dangers of drinking and driving. So, don't do it!"
Sergeant Blackwell's truck was totaled, but he, his colleagues and both DWI suspects walked away in one piece.
