Search For Flight 370 Turns Toward Chinese Satellite Image
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - Search planes are again in the skies over the southern Indian Ocean trying to locate Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 that vanished with 239 people aboard more than two weeks ago.
A satellite image released by China on Saturday is offering a fresh sign that wreckage from Boeing 777-200 could be there.
Planes and ships from several countries have been searching the remote area for several days and have found nothing.
The Chinese image was taken Tuesday and shows an object of about the same size as the larger of two objects spotted by an Australian satellite two days earlier.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority, which is overseeing the search, says the location pinpointed by the Chinese satellite had been covered Saturday before they learned of the new image, but nothing was found.
The area is marked by strong currents and rough seas, and the ocean depth varies between 3,770 feet and 23,000 feet.
