SEAGOVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) — What started with a "horrific emergency [911] call" ended with two deaths — a man who was shot and a woman police found dead — and a Seagoville police officer on routine administrative leave, the department said.
The call came in around 5 a.m. on Saturday. During it, "the caller announced that he was committing a murder in this home," Seagoville police said. Three officers responded to the 600 block of Fran Street under a "barricaded person protocol," forming a perimeter around the home.
Within minutes, the suspect was out the door.
Police say the suspect, a 50-year-old man armed with a knife and a blunt object, "charged aggressively at officers." That's when a Seagoville officer, a 26-year veteran, shot him, according to the department. He was pronounced dead at a Dallas hospital.
Inside the home, officers found the suspect's 49-year-old girlfriend "bludgeoned to death." The department did not explicitly say whether the suspect was the one who had called 911.
Police say the suspect and the girlfriend lived together in the home. No one else was inside. Police have not released their identities.
Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting, and the officer is on routine administrative leave.
