School Officials Investigating Coach Who Allegedly Said Derogatory Word

DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - School officials are investigating an incident where a football coach is accused of using the "N-word" on the field against an opposing team.
Witnesses said it happened toward the end of Friday's game between DeSoto and Southlake Carroll.
School officials said that the administration at DeSoto ISD will be asking both the UIL and the Carroll ISD Superintendent to fully investigate what happened Friday.
Witnesses said it was with about 2:41 left in the game when a Southlake Carroll player went down at the sideline near DeSoto's bench. Commentators in the press box noticed some sort of disturbance broke out after Southlake Carroll coaches came over to check on their player.
DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees Vice President Aubrey Hooper said he was in that press box wondering what happened until he received a call from DeSoto's athletic director saying that one of Southlake Carroll's assistant coaches yelled the "N-word" at DeSoto's team.
In a statement released to CBS 11, Hooper writes:
"It is unfortunate that an assistant coach on the Southlake Carroll coaching staff decided to trump the activities on the field and created a distraction laced with a racial epithet that was not only disrespectful to the members of the DeSoto Eagles football team, but also to the hard work and effort of the Southlake Carroll Dragons."
Hooper went on to applaud the students for handling the situation with class.
CBS 11 reached out to Carroll ISD as well as the Southlake Carroll coach, but have not heard back.
