Santa Makes Special House Calls Pre-Christmas Eve

FARMERS BRANCH (CBSDFW.COM) - Christmas is coming early for some local families. In the old days Santa would wait until Christmas Eve and then come down the chimney, but in Farmers Branch, parents can get a jump start on the holiday and have Santa come right to their door.

It's not the North Pole, but Santa has a special hideout in Farmers Branch where he gets ready for his early visits.

"I tell them that because the children of Farmers Branch are especially good, I like to come and visit select children who've been very good throughout the year," Santa told us just before heading out on a series of early visits.

For years the city of Farmers Branch has offered families house calls by Santa in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Six-year-old Marin Wheeler has never known a Christmas when she didn't get an early visit from Santa, and this year she's ready with what she wants.

"A pink sewing machine and a pink guitar and a baby brother," Marin said.

Santa says meeting the kids each year is great, but they aren't the only ones who appreciate the holiday spirit.

"What is amazing is the adults. They just love it. I have more pictures probably with grandmothers and grandfathers than I do with babies," Santa said.

The early visits aren't meant to replace the traditional Christmas Eve trip. If anything they just replace waiting in long lines at the mall to meet Santa, so even if kids get an early surprise they still have to be good.

"Go to bed early on Christmas Eve. Otherwise I take everything back to the North Pole with me -- even what you've already gotten," Santa warned.

If you're in Farmers Branch and you live close to the recreation center, you can order a visit. Otherwise you can tell your local community about the idea to see if they will organize some early visits of their own.
