DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The community of Sand Branch in southeast Dallas County is one step closer to getting clean, running water flowing through taps.
A newly hired lawyer, Mark McPherson, is now fighting for the community and will meet with county, state and federal agencies on Tuesday to find a solution.
The issue for years has surrounded the fact FEMA considers the community to be sitting on a flood plain.
"We're fighting and begging Dallas County to allow the citizens of Sand Branch for a water bill," said Pastor Eugene Keahey of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Where else in the world would you hear of someone asking for a water bill? That's all we're asking for is a water bill."
The closed-doors meeting involves 10 different agencies.
Community leaders believe if all goes as planned, they could have water and sewer services by November.
