Samsung Fire Boxes On Their Way To Customers

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – It's an unprecedented decision by one of the biggest technology companies in the world.

Samsung is sending fire kits to its customers due to the risk their recalled Galaxy Note 7 phones suddenly catching fire.

The prepaid mailing kits are for U.S. customers who bought the phones on Samsung.com and include a series of boxes and protective bags, including one with a special fire resistant coating.

Samsung stopped sales after two recalls and several cases of phone fires including one that prompted a Southwest Airlines plane evacuation.

"It's very dangerous if you're on the plane," says Samsung customer, Leon Benavidez. "I'm just glad it hasn't happened to me."

Benavidez doesn't have a Galaxy Note 7, but he's concerned his Samsung phone will catch fire too. "When I put it in my pants this morning, it was real hot," wondered Benavidez.

Neither Dallas nor Fort Worth Fire Departments have received calls of a Galaxy Note 7 phone catching fire.
