DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Cowboys QB Tony Romo became active on Twitter this week, with an eye on promotional opportunities, the chance to have some fun, and apparently no concern for the haters, trolls and leeches that are also part of the social-media platform.

By the time on Thursday that Romo first tweeted a seemingly experimental "9" and then on Friday added, "Looking back on (Dez Bryant's effort in the playoffs in Green Bay) ... It was a catch," he'd accumulated 126,000 followers -- likely one of the all-time Twitter leaders in terms of speed and volume.

Part of Romo's participation here is to promote efforts like the National Fantasy Football Convention, the summer event in Las Vegas that he's headlining. But Twitter can also be a place to be informed and to inform. ... And to be entertained and to entertain.

Cowboys detractors will be magnetized to Romo's feed for their own sick reasons, of course. And it took little time for the charlatan Skip Bayless to attempt to capitalize on Romo's move by attaching himself to it. (In yet another of his death-of-journalism stabs, the shameless Bayless is trying to manufacture his following Romo on Twitter into its own story.)

But mostly, Cowboys Nation seems sincerely thrilled at the chance to hear from the quarterback. That sentiment is best expressed by teammate Dez Bryant, who tweeted, "Everybody go follow the best QB in the NFL, @tonyromo 2015 is our year."
