Romo Takes A Hit In Dress Rehearsal

MIAMI (105.3 THE FAN) -- It wasn't pretty, but Tony Romo – and all Cowboys hope for that matter – survived a full half of NFL action Saturday night in the Cowboys preseason dress rehearsal against the Dolphins.

Romo finally took a direct hit, and was able to pop right back up. Which then enabled him to take two more direct hits. He stayed in the game long enough to log just over 30 plays and was sacked 3 times.

"It was good to see Tony out there playing," said Head Coach Jason Garrett. "He got knocked around a little bit, and that could be good and bad. You want the protection to be clean, but at the same time for him, in his preparation for San Francisco, it's good to have him feel the physical part of the game."

Agreed, Coach. We're all glad to see he's not made out of porcelain. But 3 sacks in a half? That's a bit concerning no matter who the QB is. This offensive line is supposed to be full of maulers. Relentless beasts who eat hammers for breakfast and defensive lineman for every other meal. First round tanks who protect the franchise's most fragile super hero with ease. But they were not as advertised against the Dolphins. And although Romo finally had the opportunity to survive a few hits, more problems arose.

In addition to too much pressure on the quarterback – miscues from young guys, drops, and penalties shot the wheels off the Cowboys offense all to often in Miami. As bad as this defense is going to be, the offense can't afford to look this ugly when the season starts.

"We want to put more points on the board, but we hurt ourselves with penalties," said Romo. "The game is always going to be hard if you keep putting yourself behind."

Cowboys fans worried about Romo being able to take a hit. After Saturday night, we can finally move past that. But there still appears to be plenty to worry about with regard to this offense. Hopefully they can clean things up before the 49ers get to town. If not, it's going to be a long season.
