Romo Passes Aikman As Cowboys All-Time Leader In Passing Yards

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo surpassed Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman on Sunday as the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards.

Appropriately, the record-setting pass was a 25-yard touchdown connection with his favorite target, tight end Jason Witten.

"Statistics are just something that are part of the game but we are all about winning and losing," said Romo after the game. "At the same time, it is always and honor any time you are just mentioned with (Troy) Aikman or (Roger) Staubach or (Danny) White. It's just a fraternity of QBS that is special to be a part and I am just glad to be a part of that group."

Aikman finished his 12-year career with 32,942 passing yards. The touchdown pass to Witten gave Romo 32,961 yards for his career.

"Tony has obviously been a great quarterback for the franchise for a long time," said head coach Jason Garrett following the game. "We've done a good job organizationally making the team better around him. The way he's played this year is the way great quarterbacks in this league have played for a long time."

Romo is in the midst of his best season statistically in the NFL, having completed 69.3 percent of his passes with 28 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions.

While he's enjoying success on a personal level, Romo is quick to acknowledge the contributions of the five guys lined up directly in front of him.

"There's no question that I am much better now than I've ever been for a multitude of reasons. Obviously saying all that, football is the ultimate team sports. I have guys up front that can block."
