Richardson police chase ends in Dallas, suspect dead

NORTH TEXAS — It was a deadly end to a high-speed chase that shut down a portion of Central Expressway Monday near the High Five.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots around 3:30 p.m. and started to take cover.

A vehicle pursued by Richardson police came to a stop several hundred yards down the Central Expressway service road. Sources say the unidentified man was wanted for questioning in the death of someone in Kaufman County.

A chase ensued and at some point, there were gunshots seconds before it all ended on the southbound I-75 service road between Midpark and the High Five. Sources said the man evading officers is dead.

It's unclear at this point if the suspect died from police gunfire or if it was self-inflicted or something else.

Both Richardson and Dallas police have sealed off several major roads, blocking traffic while they investigate.

A nearby taco shop, La Casita Taqueria,  shared its security camera video that captured the vehicle side by side with Richardson police when the gunshots were heard.

"We see there was like a chase with the police, and they started shooting on the stop sign and we were scared inside," said Diana Medina, who works at La Casita Taqueria. "We tried to hide because we didn't know if the bullets were going to get us or something."

Richardson and Dallas police are still on the scene. Dallas police are assisting.

This is a developing story.
