TARRANT COUNTY (CBS11) - A retired police officer pulled up to a scene of a car crash on Highway 183 in Euless Saturday looking to help, only to find himself in a foot chase moments later with a hit-and-run suspect.

"All I knew is he was running from the scene of an accident and my instincts kicked in," said Charles Clark.

Clark was on his way to Denny's with his two teenage children when they heard a loud crash on the highway.

"I told my kids we need to stop and make sure everyone is okay," Clark said.

When Clark spotted the driver of the wrecked car walking away, he pulled up beside him to ask if he was okay.

The response he received took even this former police officer by surprise.

"He said, 'I'm Jesus.' I knew something was wrong here."

As Clark called 911, video from a dash camera in Clark's truck shows the driver running away.

Clark then chased the driver on foot.

Other people pulled over along Highway 183 to help Clark stopped and hold down the driver until a Bedford police officer arrived.

As of Saturday night, police had not said whether the driver faces any charges.
