American Airlines Mechanic Dies After Fall From DFW Airport Jet Bridge

DFW AIRPORT (CBSDFW.COM) - Sources have confirmed to CBS 11 News that an employee with American Airlines died after falling from a jet bridge.

The bridge is between gates 30 and 34 at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport's terminal D. The incident happened just after 10:00 o'clock Monday morning.

Officials with Transport Workers Union Local 591 confirmed mechanic Dave Ostang died at a local hospital. Sources say Ostang had been with the company for 30 years.

A posting on the union's website said, in part -

"Please keep Our Union Brother and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

Authorities are investigating the incident.

American Airlines spokesperson Matt Miller gave the following statement to CBS 11 -

"At approximately 10:30 a.m. CST today, one of our mechanics was involved in an accident on a jetbridge at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Sadly, he suffered fatal injuries. We extend our deepest sympathies to our co-worker's family and friends, and our hearts go out to our entire team of DFW airport and maintenance colleagues. Our focus is on taking care of his family and friends during this difficult time."
