ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers are working hard to sign veteran outfielder Torii Hunter, sources confirm to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Hunter currently lives in Prosper, Texas, roughly 45 miles north of Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Heyman reports that five American League teams are competing for Hunter's services, including the Kansas City Royals. The Orioles, Mariners, and Twins have also shown interest.

Hunter, 39, played in 142 games last season for Detroit, batting .286 with 83 RBI, 17 HR, and 33 doubles.

In 17 major league seasons, Hunter has hit .279 with 331 home runs, including at least 14 home runs in each of the past 14 seasons.

Texas declined a $14 million option for 2015 on outfielder Alex Rios this offseason, and could also use increased production from the DH spot.
