Report: Mavs Emerge As Suitor For Rajon Rondo
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics have engaged in talks regarding All Star point guard Rajon Rondo, Yahoo Sports reports.
Rondo, who is in his 9th season with Boston, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Dallas is willing to part with its 2015 first-round pick with limited lottery protection.
Brandan Wright would likely be included in any deal, as well as other pieces to fulfill salary matching requirements.
The Houston Rockets have also reportedly expressed interest in the four-time All Star.
Any team that acquires Rondo would likely want a deal in place to retain the point guard following the season. CBS Sports reports that Rondo is open to re-signing with the Mavericks and Rockets.
While Rondo struggles as a perimeter shooter, his defensive presence on the perimeter would fill a need for Dallas. The former Kentucky Wildcat has twice been named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team (2010, 2011) and twice to the Second Team (2009, 2012).
Rondo currently leads the NBA in assists per game at 10.8. He also grabs 7.5 rebounds per game.
This season, he is averaging the fewest number of shot attempts (9.1) and points (8.3) since his rookie season for the rebuilding Celtics.
