Renewed Flood Concerns At DFW Lakes

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas lakes are full -- and some are still closed -- after recent rains. The sun had come back for a little bit, but now Tropical Storm Bill is banging on the door and promising even more precipitation across the DFW area.

Debris at Grapevine Lake shows that the water level there has come down some since area flooding started last month. However, picnic tables are still under high water. The lake is definitely full, but it is open. The same cannot be said for many parks and boat ramps across North Texas.

And now, Tropical Storm Bill is expected to drop several inches of rain on the area. Meteorologists on Tuesday morning had estimated that as many as four inches of rain could fall across the Metroplex by Thursday evening.

The Army Corps of Engineers is watching the weather forecast closely. Water is being released from Grapevine Lake. It could increase depending on the amount of rain that North Texas receives. The concern is for homes located near lakes and rivers, which may flood as water levels get higher.

Meanwhile, kayakers at Grapevine Lake on Tuesday were eager to get in some lake time before another round of storms arrives. "I would say we need it," said kayaker Jordan Beene, "but I think we have enough right now. It's definitely a lot more than we've ever had here. Ready for it to be over."
