Regulators Propose $407K Fines Over Dallas Worker Death

DALLAS (AP) — Government safety regulators have proposed $407,000 in fines against two Arizona companies over the death of a construction worker in Dallas.
The U.S. Department of Labor on Tuesday cited Design Plastering Inc. and Design Plastering West of Phoenix for eight egregious willful and four serious violations. The companies have 15 days to comply or contest the findings.
Jorge Carrion Torres died after falling from a third-story balcony on May 14 while applying stucco to the exterior of a Dallas apartment complex.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration says the employers had not installed scaffolding or provided workers with personal fall protection.
Records show OSHA in Arizona previously cited Design Plastering seven times for allowing fall-related hazards.
The companies did not immediately accept a call seeking comment Tuesday.
