Red Cross Supply Center Moving To Dallas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The American Red Cross is moving its disaster supply center from Hattiesburg, Miss. to Dallas, partly it says as a cost-saving maneuver.

Sandra Hodge, CEO of the American Red Cross Mississippi Region, tells the Hattiesburg American the organization made the decision in an effort to be "good stewards of the donor dollar."

The Red Cross disaster supply center has been located in the Hattiesburg-Forrest County Industrial Park since 2005. The Red Cross' lease on this space will expire June 30.

Officials say the move to a large metropolitan area will give the Red Cross access to better and more cost-effective transportation options for its supplies.

The Red Cross is keeping an emergency warehouse in Hattiesburg. Smaller stocks of relief supplies will be placed in multiple locations across the Mississippi Region.
