NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The competition between Christmas tree growers and artificial tree manufacturers has been going on for years.

Now that Thanksgiving is over the season for Christmas trees is in full swing and U.S. Christmas tree growers have started their first campaign to promote their product.

One of the managers on the Christmas Tree Promotion Board, Tim O'Connor, explained that the online promotion this year is geared toward millennials.

"We want them to understand the story of the real tree. So the story is being told about that and we're connecting online with so many other resources that have big followings – bloggers, Instagramers and YouTubers and sharing our content. Then they're passing our content on to their followers."

The Board says a scented, real Christmas tree' is at the heart of every holiday celebration.

The "It's Christmas. Keep it Real" website says the holiday is "about celebrating cherished traditions and creating new ones for years to come. There's nothing artificial about that!"
