Rapid Growth Comes To Rockwall's Roadways

An area once isolated from the rest of North Texas is now much more accessible because of one toll road.

Rapid growth led the North Texas Tollway Authority to take on a massive project several years ago. An extension of the George Bush Turnpike from Hwy 75 all the way down to I-30 which then takes drivers to points east like Rockwall.

Michael Rey with the NTTA says in addition to work commuters, the stretch is appreciated on summer weekends. Rey says use of the eastern leg of the Bush Tpke has continued to increase in the nearly 4 years it's been opened.

Now, Rockwall county is in the midst of making improvements to I-30. You often hear about blocked lanes on 30 near the lake as crews work on improvements to I-30 and the side roads.

In 2008, Rockwall passed a $100 million road improvement package, then a few years later a $59 million package.

Many projects have been completed, but many more are still on the horizon.
