Rangers Unveil Model Of Globe Life Field

ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers unveiled the latest look of their future home on Tuesday: a model of Globe Life Field.

The future 1.7 million square foot ballpark will sit just south of the Rangers current ballpark, Globe Life Park.

Globe Life Field will feature a retractable roof to protect fans and players from bad weather.

"Being able to take weather out of the equation is just a big benefit for fans and players," said Rob Matwick, the Rangers Executive Vice President of Business Operations.  "Knowing we have consistency of the same start time uninterrupted is a big benefit. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but anyone who's sat through the hot days of summer will appreciate that."

The Rangers will open their new stadium in time for the 2020 season.

The Rangers have not yet said if they will use natural grass for the field surface or some kind of turf.
