Rangers Trade Closer Soria For Pair Of Pitching Prospects
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers have traded closer Joakim Soria to Detroit for right-handed pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson.
Thomspon, a Rockwall-native, confirmed the move on Twitter.

Thompson, a 2012 2nd round draft pick out of Rockwall-Heath High School, is currently rated the No. 3 prospect in the Tigers system. He is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA since being promoted to Double-A Erie. He projects as a middle-to-end of the rotation starter in the major leagues.
Knebel was born in Denton and pitched at the University of Texas. He has made 8 relief appearances for the Tigers this season, allowing six earned runs in 8.2 innings of work. He also split time between Double- and Triple-A, compiling a 1.62 ERA in 25 appearances. He is currently listed as the Tigers No. 5 prospect.
Knebel, 22, will be optioned to Triple-A Round Rock and Thompson, 20, will be assigned from Double-A Erie to Double-A Frisco.
The move comes one week after Texas traded reliever Jason Frasor to Kansas City for RHP Spencer Patton.
