Rangers Sign Three Selections From 2014 Draft
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday that the club has signed three of its top four draft selections from the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The team completed physicals and signed contracts with second round pick SS Ti'Quan Forbes, third rounder SS Josh Morgan, and fourth round selection LHP Brett Martin.
The team has not yet announced a contract for first round selection Luis Ortiz, a right-handed pitcher from Sanger, California.
Forbes, 17, was rated as the 5th best shortstop prospect and 46th best prospect overall by Baseball America. He batted .427 with three home runs and 32 RBI as a senior at Columbia High School in Mississippi.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Morgan, 18, posted a .300-or-better average in each of his last three seasons at Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California. Baseball America ranks Morgan as the 6th best shortstop prospect.
The left-handed Martin, 19, compiled a 9-2 record and a 3.83 ERA as a freshman at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee.
All three players will report to the team's rookie league Arizona Rangers.
The club selected 40 players overall in this year's draft, including 27 pitchers, six infielders, five outfielders, and two catchers. College players accounted for 26 picks, while 14 high school players were selected.
